Scan and process documents efficiently

At CeBIT 2011 SCE Software showed how paper documents can be transferred efficiently, and with a high degree of automation, to digital business processes. The highlights are scan clients for production scanners running under Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Furthermore, solutions for the implementation of electronic incoming mail processing and capture of pharmaceutical prescriptions are on display.

Hannover, 01 – 05 March 2011 – Up to now scanning solutions running under Linux or Mac operating systems were restricted to operate with low volume scanners. TwinScan shifts that paradigm. As a world-first, this scan client enables Linux and Mac users to employ true production scanners to digitise large volumes of documents.

The modular concept of this system facilitates easy adaptation to diverse individual customer requirements. The basic version of the software contains functions covering all basic scan requirements. These include selection of colour or bitonal scanning, simplex or duplex, several resolutions and a multitude of document formats/sizes. Special modules are available to handle tasks like image optimisation, image processing, OCR / ICR recognition, and so on.

The software’s scalability ensures maximum performance under any circumstances, even when parallel processing steps are invoked. The user interface, employing ribbon technology, ensures simple, intuitive operation. Apart from Windows and Mac versions, TwinScan is also available for BSD Unix and Linux operating systems.

Of special interest to health insurance companies and health benefit clearing centres is a new solution for the capture of data from medical prescriptions. Data extraction is handled by a recognition engine from Paradatec. Specific data extracted include the unique drug ID number and the pharmacy registration number. The capture solution can be expanded to process the entire incoming claims mail.

Electronic incoming mail processing is the foundation for optimising business processes. SCE’s incoming mail processing solutions utilises the integration platform xbound. Paper documents are captured using InoTec high performance scanners. Automatic post-scan document processing is handled by various Paradatec modules that are integrated into xbound. They classify documents, extract and validate data and pass them, via xbound, to other business applications like ECM or ERP systems. The entire process represents a fully integrated Workflow.
